WeCare Organisation took part in raising awareness of MHM by distributing reusable sanitary pads to Kabwabwa and Nkomachi primary schools. This was possible with the support from Little Dresses for Africa.

World Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed on May 28. The main idea behind marking this day is to change the social stigma associated with menstruation. The date May 28 was chosen to observe the day because on an average the menstrual cycle for most women is 28 days and the average menstruation period for most women is for five days. Hence, the date was kept as 28/5 and the 5 also represent the fifth month of the year which is May.

Most of girls fails to attend classes when they are on period due to stigma and that girls are not properly taught about menstruation hygiene in schools. Past 3 years, WeCare has been distributing reusable pads to various communities and schools across the country and has reached to over 4,000 girls with this initiative. It has also constructed Menstrual Hygiene Unit at Mpalale Primary school in Dedza and donated hand washing baskets at M'balang'ombe primary school. WeCare also trains how to take care of reusable pads and menstrual hygiene facilitation whenever they are distributing reusable pads.
